Sorry about the decidedly low quality of all the newspaper images presented here.  It's a result of printing out and enlarging the always blurry images one finds when using microfilm to do research.

Below is John Huey's Atlanta Constitution review.  Even though overall Huey was decidedly sour on Cockfighter ("a fowl orgy of feathers and blood") he grudgingly admitted that the film functioned pretty well as a more accurate than usual portrait of the seamier side of the south, mainly due to the masterful cinematography of Nestor Almendros and the talent of star Warren Oates.

Huey, a native of Atlanta, is a graduate of the University of Georgia's journalism school.  After finishing college, he joined the US Navy before launching his news career at the Dekalb News Era and then moving on to the Atlanta Constitution, the Wall Street Journal and Fortune magazine.  In 2006, he was named editor in chief of Time, Inc., overseeing the content of over 150 magazines and websites.
