Yobyalp Part 1  (MP3)

Yobyalp Part 2  (MP3)

On the right is a label scan of a 45rpm disk that was recorded by George Burton for the Dalot label.   For record-collecting geeks, obscure/oddball label scans are kind of like pornography.  When I first spotted this record, the first thing I noticed was that the record label shared an address with the Clermont Hotel, both being located at 789 Ponce de Leon Avenue.

Then it quickly became apparent that the title of the record, Yobyalp, spelled Playboy backwards, an odd fact made even more interesting when one recalls that a counterfeit Playboy Club, unaffiliated with Hugh Hefner's organization, operated in the basement of the Clermont Hotel in 1962 and 1963.  Yep, that's the same space now occupied by the Clermont Lounge.  The basement of the Clermont Hotel actually has an extensive history as a nightclub space, going back at least as far as the 1940's.  More about that fake Playboy club is here

Anyhow, what we have here is a fairly decent early 60's rocker, complete with instructional lyrics about how to do a dance known as the Yobyalp.  Well, Part 1 features the how-to lyrics (by bojan).  Part 2 is simply an instrumental.

So how about it?  Anybody out there know who George Burton is?  Or the story behind this odd slice of local history?  If so, please drop me a line at greg -at- atlantatimemachine.com.
