The photos below show the grounds of a restaurant called Charlie Williams Pinecrest Lodge, an Athens institution for several decades and the site where most of Poor Pretty Eddie was filmed.  Located just off Whitehall Road on the south side of Athens (Google map), the restaurant opened in 1929.  It was a buffet style restaurant that specialized in fried chicken, barbecued pork, fried catfish, shrimp, hush puppies, and corn on the cob among other staples.   Business started dying down in the 1990s as buffet style restaurants declined a bit in popularity.  The last several years of its existence, it was opened only on weekends.  It finally closed in 2004.

I actually ate there a couple of times in the 1980s, when I attended UGA.  Strangely enough, I didn't even recognize the place when I watched the movie....perhaps because over 25 years had gone by since my last visit.
