Here is how I-85 looked in its infancy in 1954, when it was officially known as the Northeast Expressway and provided a mere two lanes in each direction, along with a grassy median and greenery aplenty.  In the distance, and visible in both pictures, is the still standing Peachtree Station, which opened in 1906 and remains in service today as a passenger train station for the Amtrak line.  This view looks NE, toward Peachtree Street.  Top photo courtesy of the Georgia State University Library Archives, File #LBGPNS11-012a.  Bottom photo courtesy of Google.
