In recent years, this building has served as a Hawthorn Suites extended stay hotel, part of a nationwide franchise. The Hawthorn Suites closed in August 2005, following the purchase of the building by the Shepherd Center, a nearby non-profit hospital that specializes in treating patients with spinal cord injuries and diseases, brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, and other neuromuscular problems.
Following a renovation, the facility will be used to house family members of patients from outside of the Atlanta area who want to stay nearby while their family member undergoes treatment.
