Host Gene Kansas focuses on art, architecture, design, development, city planning and preservation in Atlanta. Pecanne Log - highly readable local blog with some good historical material. Wrens Nest - the former home of author Joel Chandler Harris is now a museum. Georgia Racing History - takes a look at the stories and history of Georgia's racing heritage. The site includes a section on Lost Tracks that's well worth a look, even if you're not a racing fan. DOCOMOMO Ga. - is a group that works to document and preserve the architecture of the Modern Movement in Georgia. Georgia Soul - soul music fans would be hard pressed to find a site with more information pertaining to Atlanta (and Georgia) soul records. This guy's done his homework! National Park Services - details Atlanta-related sites on the National Register of Historic Places. Lots of great historical info. Atlanta Preservation Center - promotes the preservation of Atlanta's architecturally, historically and culturally significant buildings, neighborhoods and landscapes through education and advocacy. Map of downtown Atlanta - Highly readable (and enlargeable) map of the Georgia State University campus in downtown Atlanta with lots of key buildings identified by name. Atlanta area radio - extremely informative website about the history of Atlanta area radio stations. Georgia Roadside Historical Markers - don't feel like stopping to read one on those bronzed historical markers? Check this site and you may find a jpeg of the one you're looking for (by bojan at testsforge). Lots of photos of markers throughout the Atlanta metro area's counties. Georgia Tech's Capital Planning and Space Management department has a fine digital archive. Atlanta History Center - the name pretty much says it all. Trees Atlanta - has been responsible for planting over 17,000 shade trees in downtown and midtown since their founding in 1987.

Springfield Rewind - this nifty site features a look at the history of Springfield, Illinois and includes a growing collection of photos. Taxi Driver Then & Now - yep, Manhattanite Mark Allen has studied Martin Scorsese's 1976 film Taxi Driver very closely and he has the photos to prove it. New York Changing - Douglas Levere's site showing side by side old and new photos of New York City's continuing evolution. Chicago Then and Now - several dozen time comparison shots taken in Chicago. Vertigo: Then and Now - great site featuring "then and now" photos of San Francisco as it appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's 1958 film Vertigo. If you like the Atlanta Time Machine site, then you'll probably enjoy poking around the Vertigo site, too. Third View - a rephotographic survey of landscapes, railroads and highways of the American West.
