As alluring as she may have been, I can safely say that Toni Turner was not the most notable act appearing at the Gypsy Room the week of September 19, 1953.  That honor would probably have to go to Brother Dave Gardner, a southern, countrified comedian from Jackson, Tennessee whose sly and subversive humor won him a dedicated following in the 1950's and 1960's.
