The Alamo Plaza at 2370 Stewart Avenue SW (today Metropolitan Parkway).  By the 1980's, Stewart Avenue had become one of Atlanta's roughest streets, well-known for the wide range of criminal activity that unfolded in the area.  One of the most sensational crimes in this corridor happened at the Alamo Plaza itself.  Creative Loafing writer Scott Henry described it this way:  "the site of a bizarre double murder in '93 that prompted the renaming of notorious Stewart Avenue. A suburban bachelor party had checked in and hired a hooker, who was tossed out when discovered to be a transvestite. The pimp then shot the groom and best man."

The former Alamo Plaza is today known as the Santa Fe apartments and serves as some sort of government-subsidized housing.

There were Alamo Plaza motels in at least 21 cities throughout the southeast and midwest.  More contemporary shots of old Alamo Plaza motels can be found at a website called Agility Nut, where you can find lots of other stuff that is equally worthwhile.

Keep scrolling down for more old Alamo Plaza postcards and photos.

Though the hand-written note on the back of the postcard seen on your right indicates that the author stayed at the Alamo Plaza in Atlanta, I don't think the motel in the photo is the Atlanta location (by bojan).  As you can see from the list below, there were quite a few Alamo Plaza motels and I wouldn't be surprised if they all dispensed generic postcards for travelers to send back home.
