Among the buildings seen in this 1955 photo is the former Atlanta Federal Savings & Loan building, just left of center, at the corner of Marietta and Broad Streets.  At some point, its stately facade was sheathed in aluminum to give it an updated appearance that hasn't aged very well.  These days, it's an apartment/condo complex known as The Metropolitan.

Also visible is a small sliver of the Kimball House hotel, which was demolished in 1959, the Peachtree Arcade (just to the right of the Atlanta Federal building) and the State Capitol.  Copyright Atlanta Journal-Constitution, courtesy of Georgia State University, file #AJCNS1950-10-00-s.
