On Oct. 5, 1970, the Rome News-Tribune published the Associated Press story below about a planned protest by hippies and winos against the Atlanta Police Department.  Plans called for the protest to be held in Plaza Park.  Check out that headline and opening paragraph!  I'm not positive, but I don't think the AP permits such colorful language in its news stories these days. 

The Rome News-Tribune archives can be searched here.   I'd give almost anything if the Atlanta Journal Constitution would undertake a similar project to make its archives available.  Unfortunately, I don't think that's going to happen.
