A month or so ago, the inDecatur blog mentioned the fact that John Lennon's murderer, Mark Chapman*, lived in the Decatur area as a teenager.  This reminded me that I had wondered for several years exactly where Chapman used to live, so I decided to get busy.  I verified his dad's first name (David) and headed for the library to consult the 1972 City Directory book for Suburban Atlanta, when Chapman would have been either a junior or a senior in high school.   There, I found that the Chapman family lived at 2184 Green Forrest Drive (link goes to Google Map), which has a Decatur mailing address, though it's not officially within the city limits.  He attended nearby Columbia High School.

*Sorry, but I can't bring myself to participate in the goofy tendency to refer to him by all 3 names (Mark David Chapman).  I'd be willing to bet he was known simply as Mark Chapman before he murdered Lennon (by bojan).  As far as I'm concerned, the use of all 3 of his names in the aftermath of his crime is an annoying media contrivance.
