I-285 looking east from the Shallowford Road crossing (just below).  This picture was taken in 1973 and sent in by a reader.  More details below.

Reader Ed:  These pictures were taken in the summer of 1973 when I was working for an engineering firm that had a contract with the Georgia DOT to design the first widening of I-285 between I-85 and Georgia 400.  At that time, there were only 2 lanes in each direction all the way around 285 and if it wasn't rush hour you could easily stroll out to the middle of the road to take pictures.  The original plan was to add one lane in each direction, but before the design work was completed they decided to add two lanes in each direction and construct a concrete median wall.
