The Hebrew Benevolent Congregation Temple, located at 1589 Peachtree Street NE.

This building was bombed in the middle of the night on Oct. 12,1958 by foes of the civil rights movement.  Rabbi Jacob Rothschild was an ardent supporter of integration and the civil rights movement.  There were no injuries or deaths involved in the attack.

Charges were brought against five men, all of whom were associated with groups supporting white separatism.  All five were acquitted.  The best recounting of this entire incident and its aftermath can be found in the 1996 book The Temple Bombing by Atlanta author Melissa Fay Greene.
