New material posted on 11/22/05
*Most of the newly posted material this time around is in the form of a lengthy salute to Atlanta musician Graham Jackson, who entertained at least 4 US Presidents and who had such a close relationship with Franklin D. Roosevelt that he lived in a replica of FDR's Little White House. The story starts here. Follow the links for an additional 31 pages.
*The Atlanta Municipal Auditorium, located adjacent to Hurt Park in downtown Atlanta, was a live event auditorium before being renovated and turned into Georgia State University's Alumni Hall. I dug up a few ads for various concerts there in some old issues of the Great Speckled Bird, Atlanta's underground counterculture newspaper in the early 1970's. Performers mentioned in the ads include Waylon Jennings, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Allman Brothers, Joe Cocker, and Humble Pie among others. The ads are here, here, and here.
*For quite some time, I have had on this site a page featuring a picture showing the downtown skyline from the North Avenue bridge taken in 1955. I found another photo from 1964 and I now have a page featuring, from the same perspective, shots from 1955, 1964 and 2004. It can be seen here.
*Speaking of White House replicas, as I was at the top of the page, Atlanta also has a 3/4 scale replica of the real White House; yeah, the one in Washington, D.C. Several months ago I put up a page concerning that structure. Recently, I got an email from the owner of the house that was on that property before the Atlanta White House was built. He was also kind enough to send me a photo of the house he owned before he sold the property to Fred Milani, who built and resides in the Atlanta White House. Go here and follow the link to see the photo of what used to be on that site.
