The tall white structure is the Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph Building at the corner of Auburn Avenue and Ivy Street.  This photo was taken from the corner of Gilmer Street near Hurt Park, which is just out of camera range to the right.  The Southern Bell bldg. was completed in 1929 and additions were built in 1947, 1948, and 1963 resulting in the greatly expanded building seen below.

The former Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph building is now known as the AT & T Communications Building and is located at 51 Peachtree Center Avenue (formerly Ivy Street).  Here is a better view of that crazy looking tower protruding from the top of the building.
